Welcome to the West Hinkley Action Group

Wind Farm developers, Your Energy, have now revised their application to site 12 116m turbines on farm land on the coast at Shurton Bars. The new application is now for 9 turbines. This is a beautiful part of West Somerset with coastal features including wave-cut platforms and rock formations. It is visited also for its many and varied forms of bird life throughout the year, from Peregrine Falcons to lapwings' and many shore-line species.

Local people from the surrounding hamlets have joined together to form an action group to fight against the proposed desecration of a peaceful and historic rural environment. In fact, it was here that Samuel Taylor Coleridge found inspiration to pen his poem 'Ode to Sara'.

West Hinkley Action Group support the need for renewable energy but have the view that such giant industrial turbines be sited off-shore where they will be less detrimental to humans and wild-life. In fact, we strongly support more efficient forms of renewable energy from tidal, wave, geothermal, to solar and biomass, and feel that the government needs to develop a more coherent energy policy than the present 'bolt on' turbine concept.
