Health and Safety

Noise - Well-documented research by acoustics and sound experts such as Geoff Leventhall has shown that low-frequency infra-sound noise can have a detrimental effect on health. Problems ranging from sleeplessness, inability to concentrate to a range of mental disorders have been found. These cases are so well-documented that DEFRA has commissioned further research at Salford University.

Europe - Denmark has now withdrawn givernment subsidies to land-based wind-farms.
USA - Many states have now adopted a policy whereby wind-farms must be sited more than 2 km from the nearest human habitat.

Shadow Flicker - The strobe like affect generated by the sun shining through the moving blades may trigger epileptic fits in those susceptible to this condition. It may also have a disorientating affect up to 2km away.

Horses can also be affected .

Safety - Turbine problems may result in broken blades. Documented cases have shown that these have been hurled great distances.

Ice - Ice from the blades may cause a similar problem to walkers and riders .

Exclusion Zone - Germany now operates a 500 metre exclusion zone around many of its wind farms as a safety precaution!
